GreenXchange is a program for Young Leaders in sustainability in Israel and Germany.

It was incepted in 2011 as an initiative by the Jewish National Fund (JNF-KKL) to create a network of Young Leaders between Israel and Germany to jointly tackle challenges of sustainability that both countries face.

GreenXchange is now organized by a group of former participants who choose to act as multipliers for sustainable social change in their societies and to jointly develop environmental initiatives.
The main component of greenXchange is the annual on-site seminar that alternates between Germany and Israel. Each year, 15 Israelis and 15 Germans travel to one of the two countries for one week and discuss pressing topics from the field of sustainability with local experts and decision-makers. Throughout the year, greenXchange participants organize lectures and meetings to further deepen ties between the two countries and find solutions.
Over the past seven years, many Young Leaders from Israel and Germany have participated in the program. Participants are advanced students and young professionals that work with environmental issues and questions of sustainability. Alumni now work in leading positions in public administration and NGOs, academia and think tanks, as well as start-ups and established businesses. GreenXchange has been nominated for the Shimon Peres Prize for “outstanding projects that have contributed to shaping the future of Israeli-German relations”.

About us

greenXchange e.V. was established in the fall of 2020 to foster the exchange of German and Israeli young professionals in the field of#
sustainability. The association was founded by alumni of the greenXchange platform, an initiative by the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) that ran from 2012 until 2019.

Our members take part in annual seminars where they learn about innovative technologies, environmental policy and green start-ups in both countries. Afterwards, they develop and pursue their own projects.

Additionally, greenXchange hosts other activities such as field trips or workshops on environmental topics.

With this approach, the program serves as a new basis for environmental cooperation between Israel and Germany and for exchange and understanding between young professionals of different cultural and professional backgrounds.

Yakov Hadas-Handelsman

Ambassador of the State of Israel in Germany, about greenXchange in his speech at an event of the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation on June 25th, 2015 in Berlin: “[The greenXchange] program was launched in 2011 and serves as a very good example of how the green issue brings together Israelis and Germans. [greenXchange] is a very lively forum where young people from both countries, undergraduate students, graduate students and young professionals meet on a regular basis and discuss environmental projects.

Dr. Barbara Hendricks

Germany’s former Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, about greenXchange in her speech at the Reception of the Israeli Embassy in Germany on May19th, 2015: “I am happy to see that the environmental dialogue between Israel and Germany stands on broad grounds. A good example for this is the greenXchange program, in which students, PhD candidates, and young professionals of both countries regularly compare notes about German and Israeli environmental projects.”
